MARLBOROUGH
LANDSCAPE
Marlborough is located in the North East region of the South Island. In the north are the sheltered inlets, coves, beaches, islands and hills of the Marlborough Sounds. These are bordered by the bush clad slopes of the Richmond Ranges. To the south and western regions brown tussocked hills and rugged mountains dominate the terrain.
Blenheim the main town of Marlborough is situated on the Wairau Plain which separates the northern and southern landscapes. The Wairau Plain meets the sea at Cloudy Bay. Further south the highest mountain outside of the Southern Alps, Mount Tapuae O nuku at 2885 metres, ' Footprint of the Rainbow' presides over the Awatere Valley and is part of the Inland Kaikouras.
CLIMATE
Marlborough is one of the sunniest regions in New Zealand. Summers are warm and dry and have an average temperature between 20 and 26 degrees Celcius. Average temperatures for winter are 10 to 15 degrees Celcius with some morning frosts.
